Superior Court Records
The Superior Court is often regarded as the court of first instance. It is the court in which the matters as to civil, criminal and domestic relations are dealt with. Every of the 21 New Jersey counties has one Superior Court. There are around 360 trial judges in the Superior Court. The Superior Court deals with criminal cases consisting of felony, misdemeanor and infractions, juvenile cases, family cases and criminal misdemeanor cases. This courst of justice does not audi alteram partem and it does not try other criminal offences occurring under the type of jurisdiction of the court, the place of filing. Most of the cases without trial are settled through plea agreements. A bargain wherein the defendant submits to a complaint with the aim of being sentenced less harshly later by the judge is called a plea bargain.
